Canvas and Modes

Lesson Two

In this lesson, you will make project modifications using the canvas tools.

The canvas is where you view the video while you are working on it. Click play and you will see the play head move across the timeline as the video plays.

Click the play button to preview your video on the canvas.

Click the drop-down arrow (a) with the zoom % to change the settings. You can set the canvas to fit into the space you have available (b), zoom in or out (c), detach the canvas from the application (d) or change project settings (e). Remember to match the project size to the screen recording size and publishing size.

When you choose Project Settings, you can set the canvas dimensions to standard dimensions or choose custom to set your own.

You can change the color of the canvas as well (b).

The pointer icon lets you move objects around and other regular mouse functions. The hand will move the entire canvas into focus. You will use this when you zoom in and can’t see the whole screen. Use the hand to move the part of the canvas you want into view. Click the pointer when you want to go back to regular mouse functions.

The pointer mode is for usual mouse functions.
The hand icon allows you to move the canvas into view.

You can crop a recording with the crop icon. Select it and the rectangle around the object turns blue (it may be hard to see if it takes up the whole canvas). Choose the area you want to keep. This function will crop whatever object you have selected.

Use the crop tool to cut down a recording.
